The coveted New York fine food purveyor Dean & Deluca has picked The Promenade Shops in Galaxy Macau for its first location in the city.
The café will be serving grab-and-go items, as well as a selection of signature retail goods. The menu will include roast beef and caramelised pumpkin multi-grain sandwich, spicy prawns and guacamole on squid ink bun, Cobb salad, and watermelon salad with salted egg.
Customers will be able to enjoy such posh nosh as blueberry marble cheesecake, yuzu meringue tart and red velvet cake.
Founded by Giorgio DeLuca and Joel Dean, the original Dean & Deluca opened for business in 1977 in SoHo, then an edgy artist and warehouse district in lower Manhattan. Designed to evoke a turn of the century food department, the store carried a staggering variety of produce and foodstuffs, including many goods never previously sold in the US, such as radicchio, balsamic vinegar and sun-dried tomatoes.
In those early days, I went out of my way to establish extra virgin olive oil . . . everyone who came into the store got a taste, ” DeLuca has said.
Since then, the founders have grown the brand to become a multi-channel retailer of gourmet foods, wines and kitchenware.
They’ve also expanded around the globe with multiple stores in the US, as well as Japan, South Korea, Thailand, the UAE, Kuwait, the Philippines and Singapore. The Macau venue will be the brand’s first in China.
This first venture showcases a 26-seat café with an elevated, contemporary look. Apart from distinctive subway tile and Carrera marble, a subtle nod to the city’s Portuguese heritage will also be included in the design.
The café wil also feature an espresso bar with beverages ranging from classics like Americano and lattes to specialties like Hong Kong milk tea latte and burnt custard frappes, a unique cold drink that mimics the local favorite, Portuguese egg tart.
